NatureKids – November 2025

November Adventures: Nature’s Recycling Team

As the forest floor fills with crunchy leaves, a quiet transformation begins beneath our feet. This month, we’re exploring the hidden world of decomposition where fallen leaves, old logs, and other natural materials are slowly recycled back into the earth, giving rise to new life.

Decomposition is one of the most important processes in nature! Decomposers like fungi, worms, and beetles are nature’s ultimate recyclers, turning what’s left behind into healthy soil that nourishes the forest.

Our November activities invite groups to look closely on this fascinating process:

Forest Memory – Test your observation skills and memory as you explore and rediscover forest treasures.

Decomposer Walk – Take a closer look at the amazing critters and fungi breaking down the forest’s leftovers.

Decomposition Chain Tag – Get moving with this fun, active game that shows how decomposers work together to return nutrients to the soil.

Decomposition Jar – Build your own mini compost system and watch nature’s recycling team in action over time!

This month is a perfect reminder that nothing in nature goes to waste, everything becomes part of the cycle of renewal.

We hope your group enjoys getting their hands a little dirty, exploring the smells, textures, and sounds of the forest floor, and discovering the incredible teamwork happening in every handful of soil.

Happy exploring and happy decomposing!
