Participate in the 2024 Christmas Bird Count!
DECEMBER 10, 2024 – It’s December, and avid birders across the world know what that means: the Christmas Bird Count is almost here! Once again birders in New Brunswick will be bundling up and heading out to count birds.
Within each Count Circle (area measuring 24 km in diameter that stays the same each year), a date sometime between December 14 to January 5 is chosen and volunteers identify both the species of birds and the number of individuals observed, either in the field or at home watching their feeders.
Anyone interested in spending a few hours outdoors over the Christmas season and participating in North America’s longest running citizen science project can contact any of the Count Circle coordinators. If you get outdoor with the thousands other North Americans who have been participating for over 100 years, you just might be surprised at how many birds call New Brunswick home during the darkest and coldest time of the year.
