Climate Change Adaptation

Nature NB recognizes that our climate is changing. Climate change can be linked to a variety of impacts including more intense storm events, coastal and inland flooding, higher rates of erosion, and warmer temperatures. These impacts pose significant challenges to New Brunswickers and our communities.

Fortunately, our natural areas can help.

Wetlands, forests, dunes, and other natural systems help protect our communities from the brunt of climate change. For example, wetlands and forests can slow and store rain water, reducing the risk of flooding in downstream areas while healthy vegetated dune systems act as an anchor to reduce coastal erosion.

These types of natural solutions represent a win-win-win approach, as they tend to be less expensive than engineered approaches, protect us from the the impacts of climate change, and help restore our natural environment. Nature NB works to build expertise and capacity for nature-based solutions to climate change with various partners across Atlantic Canada. Maritime Natural Infrastructure Collaborative

Nature NB coordinates the Maritime Natural Infrastructure Collaborative, a group of organizations working to develop tools and educate decision-makers about the importance of working with nature to adapt to climate change in the Maritime region.

The Collaborative publishes a quarterly newsletter, hosts workshops, and works directly with communities to increase their resilience to climate change.
